In ancient times, there was a city named Vaidūrya Paṭṭana in the country of Tailaṅga-deśa. At present, this city is known as Muṅgera Paṭṭana or Muṅgi Paṭṭana. In that city lived a pious sage named Āruṇi, who was a devotee of Lord Viṣṇu, and whose wife was named Jayantī-devī. It was said that he was a descendant of Āruṇa Muni, who came to the assembly of King Parīkṣit, as described in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.19.11.
